Semi-Finalist

Graveyard Shift

Author: Andy Johnson

Graveyard Shift is a the sequel to the game batallion, written in InventorTM 2.01 and designed to run on Silicon Graphics systems. Unlike battalion, which runs on Indy® workstations, Graveyard Shift takes advantage of RealityEngineTM systems, so it features very sophisticated graphics. Currently, this game is a beta version because I haven't had enough time to add all the features I want!

Graveyard Shift has been tested on a Personal IRISTM system, an Indy® workstation, an O2TM, an Onyx2TM Infinite RealityTM, and an Onyx® computer. It has three different graphics modes, depending on your hardware. It also has some neat sounds if your machine is equipped with output devices. Graveyard Shift has now been recompiled under Inventor 2.1, which has definitely improved the speed and smoothness of the game.

Graveyard Shift, my attempt to create a game with more mood, was inspired by the works of Val Lewton, and films such as "The Uninvited", "Horror Hotel", and "The Haunting". At the moment the game tests your "shoot 'em up" skills , but I plan to make it more challanging by the final version and hope that it lives up to its inspiration.

I want to thank the members of the Electronic Visualization Lab for all their helpful suggestions during the development of this game.
